At its data center in The Woodlands, Texas, Disney needed two new 1-megawatt UPS units installed to strengthen backup power and protect operational continuity. Camali Corp was brought in to support the UPS installation, evaluate the existing redundancy configuration, and develop a smarter sequencing strategy that maintained A+B redundancy while eliminating the need for temporary power.

The Challenge

Disney needed two new 1-megawatt UPS units installed while protecting data center redundancy, resulting in:

  • Two existing UPS systems operating in separate rooms
  • An A+B (N+1) redundancy configuration that needed to remain active
  • New UPS units that could not communicate with the older UPS systems
  • An original installation plan that required temporary power during relocation
  • More than $100,000 in projected temporary power costs


In a critical data center environment, these issues created real operational and financial risk.

The Solution

Camali Corp reviewed the UPS configuration, identified the communication constraint, and developed a method of procedure that preserved redundancy without temporary power.

  • UPS System Installation:
    Installed two new 1-megawatt UPS units to strengthen backup power and improve data center resilience.
  • Commissioning Sequence Planning:
    Installed one new UPS alongside an existing UPS, commissioned it, and placed it into service before relocating the older UPS.
  • Redundancy Preservation:
    Maintained A+B redundancy throughout the project by carefully sequencing the installation with one new and one existing system carrying the load.
  • UPS Relocation:
    Relocated the older UPS to the room with its matching unit, allowing the older systems to remain paired while the new UPS units were brought online.
  • Value-Engineered Design and Build:
    Eliminated the temporary power scope by rethinking the method of procedure instead of simply following the original plan.
